Sydney’s northern-most beachside suburb, with its pristine subtropical bushland, iconic Barrenjoey Headland, trademark golden sands and yachtsman’s paradise of Pittwater, has long been a sought-after as a summer holiday venue for families from all over NSW.
 
The area has always attracted day trippers and sun seekers keen to swim in the surf at the beach or windsurf, kayak and, more recently, paddle board on Pittwater. Originally, homes were owned (or rented for the duration of the summer holidays) by farmers and families from the country, desperate for a yearly pilgrimage to the coast.
 
Increasing steadily over the last 25 years has been the presence of many of Australia’s most high-profile celebrities for whom Palm Beach has also become an essential “who’s who” summer playground, to the point where many of the country’s A-listers can be seen in the area over Christmas.
 
Today, business executives who live and work closer to the CBD own many of the houses in the area, and they share their time between the city and the beach, achieving a better work/life balance. The percentage of houses lived in year-round has increased as more people seek a sea change or permanent escape from the city.
 
The area still has quaint cottages, reminiscent of a bygone era, with sandstone walls and timber floors, retro tiles, and vintage bathroom ware, but many have been replaced with a more modern coastal or Hamptons style of home with their trademark white timber facades, wide verandas, plantation shutters, and vaulted ceilings. Of course, luxurious homes of international standing are now commonplace, architect designed, and master built, with innovative features and award-winning pools.
 
Commencing business in 1983, LJ Hooker Palm Beach has a constantly dominant market share in what is a deceptively competitive marketplace for sales, long-term rentals and holiday rentals in Palm Beach and Whale Beach. At the helm of the business since 1989, David Edwards has built a team of highly skilled professionals, including Peter Robinson, who is now a partner in the business.
